Program Eligibility
Is the program open to university students of all nationalities?

Yes. The Catalai China Internship Program welcomes applications from all nationalities. In recent years, participants from over 30 different nationalities have taken part in the program. In recent years, we have seen most applications from students and graduates at universities in the UK and the USA.

Can postgraduates apply?

Yes. If you are currently studying at university or have recently graduated, then you are eligible to apply. Catalai receives applications from undergraduates, postgraduates, MBA students and recent graduates. The age range of most participants tends to be from about 19-23.

Application Process
How do I apply?

Application Form
To apply to the Catalai China Program please fill in the online application form – it should take you approximately 5 minutes to complete the form. Remember to check your preferred start date, location and program duration. You should apply to the program as early as possible and at least 45 days before your preferred program start date.

Telephone Interview

Successful applicants will be invited by Catalai for a telephone interview. The telephone interview should last between 15-20 minutes. The purpose of the interview is for Catalai to assess your overall suitability for the programme, and it is a chance for you to ask questions about the program and the next steps in the application process.

Program Deposit

Successful applicants are required to secure their application to the Catalai China Internship Program by paying a programme deposit of $500/£350. On receipt of the programme deposit, Catalai will comfirm that your application to the program has been secured.
Partner Employer Interviews

Once your application has been secured the Partner Employer Consultation Process, for the internship part of the program, can begin. During this process some of Catalai’s partner employers may wish to hold telephone interviews to assess your suitability for the internship position/role they are offering. Catalai helps to coordinate this process and you are kept updated at each stage.
Program Details and Confirmation 
Once the Partner Employer Consultation Process has concluded, your program details will be issued. You will be required to pay the remaining balance of the program fee.

What information will I receive before I depart for China?
What is confirmed before I depart for China?

Once your place on the Catalai China Internship Program has been confirmed, you will be issued with your program details. The program details will cover everything you need to know before you depart for China, ranging from which comany/organisation you will be interning with, clear and simple instructions for your visa apllication and a detailed itinerary for your first orientation weekend in China.

Accommodation
Where will I be staying and what facilities will my accommodation have?

If you choose to add the Catalai accommodation to your China Internship Prgram, you will stay in the Catalai accommodation with the other Catalai participants in modern serviced apartments. In both Beijing Shanghai, Tianjin and Hangzhou, the accommodation is modern, clean and conveniently located.

The apartments have:

  • Wireless internet
  • Air conditioning
  • Cooking facilities
  • Washing facilities
  • TV and lounge area

*Gym access is also available on request.

Program Fees: The Deposit and the Remaining Balance
Will I need to pay a program deposit?

Yes. Successful applicants are required to secure their application to the Catalai China Internship Program by paying a program deposit of $500/£350. On receipt of the program deposit, Catalai will confirm that your application to the program has been secured.
 

At what stage will I have to pay the remaining balance of the program fee?

You will then be required to pay the remaining balance of the program fee when you are issued with your program details. Normally you will be issued with your program details at least 6 weeks prior to your program start date. However if you apply early to the program (this is strongly encouraged) all of you program details are likely to be finalised at least 2-3 months prior to your program start date.

Many students and recent graduates applying to the Catalai program often ask about the types of companies that Catalai partners with. Catalai partners with a large number of companies across all major sectors. Approximately half of the companies are international and half are Chinese. From large multinational companies and state owned enterprises, to small and medium size companies, and from start-ups and entrepreneurs to NGOs and non-profit organizations, Catalai partners with an increasingly diverse range of partner employers. With Catalai, the process is selective and transparent, ensuring that partner employer companies and interns are kept up to date at every stage.

 

For the internship part of the Catalai program, successful applicants will be made an offer of an internship by one or more of Catalai’s parter employers. Catalai works closely with its partner employer companies to help them select suitable intern candiadtes for specific internship roles and positions. During the Partner Employer Consultation Process, applicants are often required to hold a further telephone interview with one or more of Catalai’s parter employers. This process guarantees that both the intern and the company are well prepared for the internship - preparatory reserach work and pre-internship tasks are normally given, ensuring the first day at the office goes smoothly.
